Interval Training

Because the standard lunch time runs were not painful enough (and our race times were not improving as much as we'd like), a few of us started heading over to Valley Catholic track on Wednesday's to run intervals. This has turned into a pretty regular event, at least for the summer and fall.

Everyone is welcome to join us Wednesdays on the track. The group is mixed with men and women. The fastest runners do 1 mile intervals in under 6 minutes and slowest are about 8:30. Sometimes we try to run as a group, usually it's less organized with different people showing up at different times.

Usually Coach Gravel or Coach Loberg have some program in mind for the group to run (1 mile intervals, ladders, etc.). Often there is disagreement about the wisdom of the coach's training plan. The main group heads out to the track on Wednesday's at 11:45. I'd suggest adding your name to the mailing List to make sure you are aware of any runs for that week.

Intervals are not always fun, but they won't kill you and, as a group, we've been amazed by how much our running times have improved due to the intervals.

NOTE: Jan 2000 - Intervals moved to Nike Track
